PMA?
Did you just mention Personal Mobility Aids, which is related to PMDs, again?
Editor: Yes, and we’re not talking about Positive Mental Attitu-
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
OK. I’m done screaming. Let’s proceed to watch a PMA do what some PMDs have been doing illegally for the past few years: riding on the road.
Man Rides On PMA… On The Road
This was spotted on 23 Nov 2019, at Eu Tong Sen Street and sent to STOMP by 51-year-old Hamid Osman.
If you’re waiting for me to offer you a gif summary of the video, don’t. It’s only 11 seconds long and shows exactly what you’re expecting. Just a man in a hospital gown on a PMA, chilling and rolling down the road on his PMA.
Cars and motorbikes can be seen zooming past the PMA.
Here’s a reminder: PMAs are not allowed on roads and are meant as aids (duh, hence the name) for people who might have mobility issues, like the disabled or elderly.
Reactions On The Scene
Mr Hamid took the video when he spotted the man making a U-turn from the other side of the road while waiting at a bus stop.
As he told ST, “I thought it was quite funny because usually when you see e-scooter or personal mobility device riders on the road, they’re young kids, but this uncle was elderly and in the hospital gown, so I filmed him as he rode past in the bus lane.”
“Other people at the bus stop were looking and laughing as well.”
And while this is an obvious safety hazard, you can’t deny that watching a PMA strolling at a snail pace while motorbikes zoom by is a funny sight.
Turns Out To Be SGH Patient
Turns out, he is actually an SGH patient, which is confirmed by the hospital when The Straits Times contacted them.
He had left his ward on his PMA without informing the hospital staff.
It is a safety procedure for patients who want to go out of the ward to inform staff, who will assess if it is safe to do so depending on their medical condition. Staff will call them or their family members to search for them when patients left the ward for too long.
When he returned to SGH later, he did the boss move by still being on the PMA.
Go wild with the video, my fellow memers.
