Yes, the day you’ve been waiting for has finally come.

Now, when I first heard about dark mode and how everyone was complaining that WhatsApp didn’t have it, I was like What’s so great about dark mode?
Well, not only does it look cool, but dark mode has quite a few benefits for users too.
Most importantly, some users find dark backgrounds easier to look at for long periods of time, as there’s less glare than a light colored interface.
Darker screens also use less power, especially if your device has an AMOLED display.
So how do you activate dark mode for Android?
According to Tech Radar, WhatsApp dark mode is now available for beta testing, so while you can use it now, some features and colours might change before the final release, based on the results of the testing.
Here’s how to get dark mode on your phone:
- Sign up for the beta program through the Google Play Store
- Wait for your account to be processed (this may take a few hours)
- Update your app (the latest beta release is 2.20.53 at the time of writing)
- If you can’t see an update option, download and install the APK
- Restart the app
- Tap ‘Settings followed by ‘Chats’ and toggle dark mode on
And that’s it! The light gray and green palette you’re used to will switch to cool shades of black, teal, and midnight blue.
Alright then. Have fun with the dark mode and I’ll see you next ti-

However, this option doesn’t seem to be available in the beta release. So, while they might release it in a future update, it doesn’t look likely.
