Of course, most Singaporeans would’ve thought that they might be ripped off, but typically, a politely worded question and an equally politely worded answer would’ve resolved the issue.
But not this time though.
Woman Goes Into Three Minutes Rant About Cheating Taxi Drivers
On 18 Oct, a Facebook video initially posted to Singapore Taxi Driver Facebook Page, then All Singapore Stuff Facebook page went viral.
At around 8 pm on 16 Oct, according to the date stamp of the footage, a woman could be heard screaming at a ComfortDelgro taxi driver.
From the conversation, it seemed like the taxi driver had taken a wrong turn just before the scream fest started.
She accused him of trying to cheat her of her fare and assumed the taxi driver thought she’s a tourist.
But on the bright side, she seemed to be an advocate of ComfortDelgro.
She told him that if he wants to cheat passengers out of their money, he should’ve gone for Transcab instead.

According to her, ComfortDelgro is full of professionals.
That is so taxi-ism.
Just When She Was Winding Down, Something Happened
The taxi driver, presumedly unable to take her screams anymore, told her to go ahead and complain to his company.
He added that even if he’s poor, he won’t do such a thing like cheating on the fare.
The driver said that the lady shouldn’t have crossed the line even though to her, taxi drivers are “lower-class” people.

And that led into a whole new round of argument.
So Rich People Deserved To Be Cheated?
The lady then asked the driver if “rich people deserved to be cheated”?
He denied saying that and repeated that he will never do such a thing to her.
Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore and told her that he’ll give her a receipt so that she can lodge a complaint with ComfortDelgro.
And then, he took a wrong turn.
And the ranting, if possible, turned even higher pitched and furious.

She swore at the driver, Bitch, bitch, and screamed that the way to her house was actually straight down the previous road.
After a few seconds, he made an illegal U-turn but she wasn’t appeased.
She complained about how he made a few extra in surcharge and asked why he does not just make a U-turn after going to Changi Airport or Bukit Merah.
Go to Tiong Bahru there and make U-turn ah.
Then, the footage cut off abruptly.

Most netizens online agreed that the auntie went over the line while some felt that there could be more to the story.
However, there’s one thing that everybody who saw the video can agree upon: listening to her scream and rant is punishment enough for the driver.
Taxi Driver’s Calm & Quiet Response is Key
I don’t know about you, but if it were my colleague who’s driving the taxi, World War 3 might have erupted.
However, the taxi driver was quiet when the lady went apeshit, so if there’s anything we can learn from this, it’s this: despite taxi drivers not having a rating system, their years of experience could defuse a situation like this easily.
‘Coz I’m pretty sure a hot-headed young private hire driver would have just scolded back like there’s no tomorrow.
