They always say to not count your chickens before they’ve hatched. Here’s a pretty good example of one that will hopefully teach us a lesson or two.
Woman Thought She Won Lottery
This 39-year-old Vietnamese woman allegedly bought seven pieces of lottery tickets on Feb 17. After the results were disclosed, she was shocked to find out that she had won the jackpot. Guessed how much was it? 14 Billion dong. (S$867,151)
Initially, she refused to let anyone check the numbers, out of fear that they may steal the tickets. She even threatened to omit their share if they continued harping on it, according to World of Buzz.
So what do you do with all these money? Simple. She threw banquets and bought gifts for her neighbours. She even bought a large amount of rice to be distributed to the less privileged. Such a sweetheart; she didn’t even choose to splurge all her winnings on material wants. We admire how thoughtful she is.
Here’s the thing: She actually didn’t win.
Back To Reality
Reality caught up with her a few days later when she and her family went to cash in the tickets, just to realise that only two out of the six numbers matched the winning set. Two out of six! It wasn’t even four or five out of six. Oh man. She has plunged herself into a 100 million dong (S$6,193) debt.
Currently, her family is attempting to raise money to pay off the debt. Furthermore, upon hearing the news, many of the recipients also quickly returned the gifts. On the other hand, relatives and friends who attended the banquet donated money to her in ang baos.
Who would have thought that things would spiral into this state? This really looks like a replica of Miss Universe 2016 all over again. She probably felt as if her winnings were taken away from her. Lesson learnt, always confirm that it belongs to you, before doing anything with it!
But here’s a question that has been bothering everyone in the office: how can you think that you’ve won…when only two out of the six numbers matched? If like that, we all won many times liao loh.
