You know those rare, few instances that restore your faith in humanity?
This article happens to be one of those.
And no I’m not talking about my own writing, though you’re totally free to worship it if you so wish.
Rather, I’m talking about the topic at hand:
A Stomper was eating at an eatery when an elderly lady asked if she could sit on his table. Without any hesitation, he said yes and cleared the table for her.
In return, she went to get a drink, and got one for the Stomper too.
What exactly happened?
The incident had transpired yesterday (18 Dec) afternoon.
Stomper Zi had purchased chicken rice at an eatery near Yishun MRT Station when an elderly lady requested to sit at his table.
He instantly replied yes, and cleared the table for her.
“I did not have enough money to buy a drink and the auntie apparently noticed it because when she went to buy one for herself, she got one for me too,” said Zi.
“She said she bought the drink for me because I looked like a good boy,” Zi laughed.
He was very touched by what she did, and was eager to share it with others.
“I want to tell others to help each other no matter what race or religions you come from because at the end of the day, we are still humans who depend on one another,” said the Stomper.
“If a person is in need, just help.”
He added that he was motivated to “pass it on”:
“If I come across someone who is in need, I will try my best to help them.”
“Touched by auntie”
In the comments section, Netizens seemed to be more concerned with Stomp’s caption, rather than the auntie’s kind act.
The Stomp article’s caption is as follows:
Youth touched by auntie who bought him drink at Yishun eatery: “I want to pass it on”
Naturally, Netizens were quick to latch on.
And more.
Nevertheless
Misleading caption aside, I gotta admit:
That kind act made my day.
Now I know; firefighters are braving fires everyday to save people, and I’m getting touched by small gestures like this?
To which I implore; when’s the last time you saw something like this?
Because I know I didn’t. What I did witness, on the contrary, are incidents of people “fighting” over seats in the MRT, people touching each other up without permission and people brawling in coffeeshops.
And while the firefighters are undeniably unsung heroes without capes, this auntie didn’t exactly ask for fame when she did it too.
Rather, it was out of the kindness of her heart, and because the Stomper had volunteered to help her out.
And believe it or not…
It’s that very aspect that made my day.
Now, if only more Singaporeans do the same thing.
Note: of course, many Singaporeans are probably doing it everyday.
But c’mon, just think about it.
If kind gestures like this could be Stomp-worthy…
It speaks a lot about the rate.
