If you’re an avid reader of Straits Times aka mainstream media, then you would have noticed a revamp of their site with its clean, crisp design and fonts.

Well, that is not the only thing that has changed for Straits Times.

Prior to the revamp, readers are only limited to 15 articles per month and if you want to read more, you have to cough up a small subscription fee.

But now, there has been a change.

ST Premium articles

On their site, it states that from 26 Feb, only subscribers will have access to ST premium.

ST premium articles include exclusive stories, interviews and features, first-hand reporting from their correspondents in bureaus in Asia and around the world, engaging video and visuals and in-depth opinion pieces.

So, if you want to read a thought-provoking article or you want to know the development of Terminal 5, chances are that they might be premium.

With that said, breaking stories be it local or international, they will remain free to readers.

So if you see an article that is labelled premium, you will only be able to read the first few lines of the article.

I am not too sure why the sudden revamp—maybe print is dying?

With that said, their most expensive plan is only $29.90 a month. So, it isn’t going to break your bank.

Thoughts

“Delivering good journalism demands sheer hard work – old-fashioned legwork to seek out information and cross-check facts, as well as tapping today’s communications tools to tell stories in new, creative and more visual ways,” said Warren Fernandez, Editor-in-Chief The Straits Times & SPH’s English, Malay, Tamil Media Group.
