2 Women in S’pore Caught on Video Touching US Singer Kelis’ Braided Hair Without Permission

“My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard…”

Remember this catchy tune we used to sing in primary school?

The singer, Kelis, was in Singapore earlier this month for the Formula One performance at the Mandala Weekender party.

In case you forgot how the song sounds or how she looks, here is a snippet from the Mandala Weekender party.

However, during her visit, she encountered something rather shocking.

Kelis was at the Pearl’s Hill 34 Coffee Shop in Chinatown when this incident happened. Two women were touching and playing with her braids—they seemed amazed by it as if seeing gold for the first time.

At some point, Kelis then turned and touched the hair of one of the women.

M’aam, you probably do not know this but a celebrity just touched your hair.

The woman then asks Kelis if the hair is real, before giving her a thumbs up.

The two women continued to touch her hair and Kelis sarcastically told her friend recording the video, “Oh, I like to be touched.”

The video has since garnered over 32,000 likes and 4,000 comments.

Kelis explained in the comments section, “First, I was caught off-guard.”

“Second, they were enamoured, as they should be,” she added.

She also mentioned, “I don’t like being touched and if we were in the (United) States or Europe, my reaction would have been different.”

Reactions From Netizens

Many netizens were equally as taken aback as she was. They felt that it is basic respect not to touch a stranger no matter how in awe they were.

Some netizens have gone through similar experiences as she did. Some people dislike being touched while others accept it as it is part of embracing culture.
