Think that work or school are the only places you’ll meet snakes?
Think again.
While we’re probably more used to seeing snakes slither on the ground, that’s not the only place you might see them.
Sometimes, you might see them when you least expect it.
Snake Spotted in Overhead Compartment of Plane
Yup, you read that correctly.
And no, it’s not a throwback scene to the 2006 movie Snakes on a Plane.
On 10 February, there was an extra, unexpected passenger seen on a domestic AirAsia flight that was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau, Sabah in Malaysia.
I mean, I’m not saying it’s the spirit animal of some people’s uni coursemates, but…
In a video posted on TikTok, a silhouette of a snake can be seen through the lights in the overhead compartment of the plane.

The video, which has garnered over 8,000 likes since it was posted, shocked many on the internet.
I mean, you might see snakes every day, but probably not on a plane, right?
Flight Diversion to Kuching
In response to CNA, AirAsia explained that the flight captain decided to divert the flight to Kuching, Sarawak once he was informed of the snake’s presence as a precautionary measure.
The aircraft was then fumigated to get rid of the snake.
AirAsia’s chief safety officer Capt Liong Tien Ling mentioned, “This is a very rare incident which can occur on any aircraft from time to time.”
“The Captain took the appropriate action,” he concluded.

Capt Leong also emphasised that the safety and wellbeing of their guests and crew have always been the airline’s top priority, and added that no guests or crew were put at risk at any point in time.
After the fumigation process, the plane flew from Kuching to Tawau.
