MOH: S’pore Anti-Vax Videos Have Been Removed by YouTube
When MOH releases a statement, it’s usually about what they intend to do, or what they’ve done.
This afternoon, they released an interesting statement: they said that they note and welcome the removal of certain social media contents due to violation of community guidelines.
Iris Koh, 45, has openly started Healing the Divide, a website she claimed to “fill an information gap” about COVID-19 vaccines. She has repeatedly mentioned that the group “isn’t anti-vax”.
She also started an online petition called “Do not let vaccination status divide us”, whereby she urged the authorities not to have different rules for the non-vaccinated as some people are concerned about the safety of the vaccine.
Unlike Truth Warriors whereby the founders are anonymous, Iris has been publicly advocating her anti-vaccination stance on YouTube and Facebook, speaking at length about the issue.
She would often livestream virtual town hall meeting as well.
MOH said that they have “noted that Iris’s channel has a history of posting and sharing content that perpetuates falsehoods and misleading information about COVID-19 and vaccines. The Government takes a serious view of the deliberate communication of these falsehoods and will not hesitate to take action against those who put the public’s health and well-being at risk by spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines.”
They therefore welcome “the latest removal of content from the YouTube channel by Iris Koh, which includes “Town Hall Meeting: United We Stand For Choice”, and “Healing the Divide: Remembering Those We Love and Lost”, for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines. We also observe that Facebook has previously suspended Iris Koh’s account in more than one instance, for violating their Community Guidelines.”
Despite the suspension of her Facebook account, it appears that her account is still active as of today.
YouTube & Facebook Removing Misinformation About COVID-19 Vaccine
Since September 2021, YouTube has vowed to remove all COVID-19 vaccine misinformation, such as claims that any approved vaccine is dangerous, causes chronic health defects or does not reduce spread of disease.
Similarly, since February 2021, Facebook and Instagram have removed all false claims about all vaccines.
However, as of now, the Healing the Divide website is still active.
