Singapore, oh Singapore. The Garden City of Southeast Asia, home to plenty of the era’s most prominent landmarks - and also - affectionately, or rather infamously, known as the ‘Fine City’. It’s a trademark not just amongst the tourists who questionably purchase graphic tee-shirts with the following words printed in bold lettering. It’s just a Singaporean thing. Image: Giphy I don’t know about you but I remember being told, at the tender age of five, that if I even dared to eat or drink on the trains or the station, the “MRT Uncle” will “bring me go see police”. I’ve lived in constant fear since then. Everyone has. Image: Tenor Foreigners Caught Eating And Drinking On Public Transport But then, just last Thursday, a Caucasian man was seen and captured enjoying a chug of beer whilst waiting for the MRT at the Chinatown station. The ordeal was recorded and uploaded on All Singapore Stuff’s Facebook Page. Here's the video: As detailed by the caption, the man’s Oktoberfest episode was not at all called out by the station staff, to every Singaporean’s horror. It was an injustice realer than any of Kim Kardashian’s weddings. The incident, however, is not exactly the only one of its kind. There exists a ton of reports on the subject of tourists being given the “special treatment” by public transport staff. As DJ Khaled put it, ANOTHER ONE, was reported on the same day. Cup noodles. The noodles look nice, though. Netizen Reaction Netizens were livid at the actions taken by the station staff. The comment section was filled with comments that expressed years and years of pent up spite. Image: Facebook (All Singapore Stuff) According to the Rapid Transit Systems (RTS) Act, the consumption of food or drink in MRT trains and stations are subject to a fine of up to $500. That includes water. Sian. SBS Transit has yet to release its statement on the following incidents.
