Now, hold your horses, because pray tell me, when’s the last time you’ve been there? Because if you’re a regular Clarke Quay-er, you’ll know that the place has been transformed into a foodies’ paradise. Other than housing the very first 翠華 Tsui Wah in the whole of Southeast Asia, the riverside area that shares the same first name as Superman is also home to many restaurants. Fancy some affordable steak? You’ve The RANCH Steakhouse By ASTONS, which is unlike any normal beef but beef that is dry aged. Love Ramen as much as you love Maggie Mee? Ramen Keisuke Lobster King is there to upscale your Maggie Mee. Prefer Chinese food because your parents are tagging along? There’s another restaurant by ASTONS, the East Treasure Chinese Restaurant 東寶之東方明珠, that serves an extensive menu of delectable, exquisite and affordable Chinese cuisinedishes such as KL Hokkien Mee and Double Boiled Tonic Soup with Crocodile Meat. Truth to be told, speaking about Clarke Quay nowadays shouldn’t make you thirsty, but hungry instead. But if you’re like me who just wants to try as many foods as possible in one trip, then you’re in luck because Clarke Quay is holding the Great Clarke Quay FEASTival from 5 to 9 December 2018, whereby you get to purchase sample-sized high-SES dishes at low-SES price. In other words, an Instagram-worth food bazaar. And to add salt to the dishes, it’s at an extremely Instagram-worthy location, too. The Great Clarke Quay FEASTival If you’ve been to Clarke Quay, you’ll have seen this bridge. Image: Tuomas Lehtinen / Shutterstock.com It’s a lonely, Instagram-worthy bridge that links Clarke Quay to Swissôtel Merchant Court, atop the iconic Singapore River. What you might not know is that it’s one of the oldest bridges in Singapore, having been constructed on 1889. Way before you were born, people would gather there to listen to stories, and some things never change: people are now gathering there to Insta-Story. In 2008, the bridge was selected for conservation as part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority's expanded conservation programme, so it’ll be here to stay. Now, imagine food trucks run by popular restaurants in the area peppered on the bridge, selling foods that’ll feed both your Instagram and your stomach. The entire bridge will be transformed into an outdoor festival event with lots of LED structures (it’s happening at night so it’ll be LIT). To add even more Instagram to the Instagram, there will be a giant see-saw and ball pit. Did I mention that there would be live bands singing Baby Sharks too? There’s also a daily lucky draw, with a staycation as the grand prize (no worries, not a staycation on the bridge). I can only think of one conclusion: you'll be spoiled for choices. 15 Food Kiosks to Turn the Read Bridge to an Eat Bridge Lest you’re not aware, the bridge is called Read Bridge, which is named after a person. But come 5 December 2018, you can effectively call it an Eat Bridge. Remember the food trucks I mentioned earlier? Okay, I took a bit of literary liberties because it’s actually food kiosks designed to look like food trucks. And to reiterate, these food kiosks are run by the restaurants that are scattered across the whole of Clarke Quay. By the way, the dishes and menu are curated such that you can have a taste of different cuisines from Asian and local delights to American favourites and fusion. It’s the best of many worlds, indeed. Missing this Event is Like Missing Your Bae’s Birthday It’s got lots of food, lots of Instagram-worthy backdrops, lots of “vibes” and lots of everything: it’ll be a sin to miss this event. After all, it’s the end of the year: end it with a blast. Forget about the calories because you can start your diet next year (like what you’ve said last year). And to top it all: after your meals, you can chill out with some friends in the nearby pubs. I’ll go on a limb and say that you can miss your bae’s birthday, but you can’t miss this.
