Elon Musk, Who Used to Date Amber Heard, Broke Silence on Depp-Heard Trial

When Elon Musk was called by the court if he would like to testify at the Depp vs Heard trial, the billionaire and owner of Twitter, had chosen a resounding “no”.

Not that anyone can fault the man; why throw yourself into that particular publicity cesspit, when you’ve only barely dated for a year?

In case you aren’t caught up about the finer details of the case, Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for defamation and asking for $50 million in damages for the opinion piece she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018 which alleges that he is a domestic abuser.

In response, Heard counter-sued Depp for $100 million for alleging that she was a liar.

Elon Musk’s Twitter Response

Now that the civil suit is over after 24 gruelling days and the jury have begun their deliberations, this signifies a few things.

For one, no new evidence can be submitted or considered in the process of judgement.

Secondly, the jurors are completely isolated (not in a literal sense) and are not allowed to go on the internet to research more or read through the public’s opinion about the case.

Their judgement should solely be based on the evidence that has been accepted as objective facts, the witnesses’ testimonies, as well as how the plaintiff and defendant have presented their case through their lawyers.

It also means that Elon Musk is now free to say whatever he wants, without impunity, though the Tesla and SpaceX founder has gone for a surprisingly middle-ground comment.

On Friday (27 May), he wrote: “I hope they both move on. At their best, they are each incredible.”

It was said in response to an earlier tweet by research scientist and podcaster Lex Fridman, who honestly summed up the entire court hearing in a succinct tweet: “My takeaway from the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial: 1. Fame is one hell of a drug (for some). 2. Psychiatrists and lawyers come in drastically varying levels of skill. 3. Lying to millions to people is something humans are capable of. 4. Love can be messy. 4. Mega pint of wine.”

Words never spoken truer.

For all that Mr Rottenborn has done in spite of his name, he has certainly given the internet an unholy amount of memes and crack compilations.

After so many hours of grilling and cross-examinations in court, everyone deserves their mega pint of wine.

How Did Elon Musk Get Involved?

During the trial, Depp accused Heard of having an affair with Musk in his defamation suit, which he claimed had taken place no later than a month into their marriage.

Depp and Heard were married from 2015 to 2017, before they divorced on the grounds of “irreconcilable differences”.

Towards this accusation, Elon Musk’s spokesperson told E! News in 2019 that the billionaire and actress hadn’t started seeing each other until May 2016, and their meetings were far and few between. Their relationship didn’t become romantic until much later.

Depp’s belief likely stems from the tabloid gossip which first sparked rumours of the pair dating in July 2016.

Heard and Musk’s relationship only became official in April 2017, though they broke up a few months later in August.

Elon Musk maintains that stance and thus refused to testify for Heard in court.

Given the short-lived nature of their relationship, maybe he didn’t understand Heard deeply enough to give a substantial testimony, which is plausible, considering how even Depp—who had grown up with an abusive mother—hadn’t known whom he had truly married until it was too late.

Or perhaps he just didn’t want to be embroiled in the estranged couple’s messy affair.

Nevertheless, the jury will finish their deliberations on Tuesday (31 May) and deliver their final verdict then.
