A while ago, our beloved Prime Minister Lee talked about the practice of the Gotong Royong spirit when otters visited the Istana.
For those who do not know, the term means “mutual assistance” in Malay. So bless Gojek for stepping up to demonstrate this spirit as the company just announced the introduction of a temporary flat fee to help their drivers cope with rising fuel costs.
Steady lah.
What Is the Gojek Temporary Flat Fee
On 19 March, a spokesperson from ride-hailing application Gojek announced that the temporary flat fee will be imposed from 31 March onwards to help their private-hire drivers cope with rising fuel costs.
Lest you’re not aware, fuel prices are rising and they’ll keep rising; watch this to the end and you’d understand:
Again, this measure is not permanent but temporary. The temporary flat fee will be in place for two months after 31 March “until at least 31 May”.
The temporary flat fee model will add the additional charge of $0.50 for trips less than 10 km in distance, while trips that go beyond 10 km will add the additional charge of $0.80.
So short-distance rides will have an extra $0.50 while long-distance rides will have an extra $0.80.
Temporary Flat Fee Excludes GoTaxi Services
The temporary flat fee imposed will apply to all GoCar, GoCar Premium and GoCar XL services on the Gojek platform.
However, the temporary flat fee will not be imposed on the GoTaxi services on Gojek. So those who die-die want to save those extra few cents, use the GoTaxi service instead I guess?

Drivers will also be able to take home the full amount of their commission as the temporary flat fee will not be subjected to its existing commission rates.
Promotions For Current & New Gojek Users
Gojek also announced that their ‘925’ promotion will still be available for their users since customers need help with the rising cost of living too.
For those who are unaware, Gojek’s ‘925’ promotion allows users to enjoy 50% off (capped at $5.00) for their first five rides when you book any rides on their platform between 9:00am to 5:00pm. New users will also receive a discount voucher.
Reasons Behind Gojek’s Temporary Flat Fee
The decision to introduce the temporary flat fee was an attempt by Gojek to help their private hire drivers mitigate the rising fuel costs due to the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war.
Pump prices for fuels have already began to increase as much as 11 cents per litre, with the sharpest increases seen for diesel.
Other ride-hailing platforms such as Ryde, TADA, and Grab are currently monitoring the situation closely to ensure that adequate support will be given for drivers on their respective platforms. Grab had recently announced a 3-month commission rebate of 5 per cent for the first 199 completed trips as an effort to help qualifying drivers deal with the rising fuel costs.
