Whether it’s in the morning, afternoon, evening, or night, seeing a queue outside a Singapore Pools outlet is not unusual.

In addition to drinking bubble tea and complaining, betting is a hobby for many Singaporeans.

So, when you come across an empty betting centre, it’s like hearing a Singaporean compliment the Certificate of Entitlement system: when it happens, something has gone very, very wrong.

In this instance, it’s once again thanks to the coronavirus.

2 Sports Betting Centres in Chinatown & Rochor Closed for Deep Cleaning After Visit by COVID-19 Case

Two Livewire sports betting centres in Singapore have been closed for deep cleaning after a COVID-19 patient visited them.

One is located at China Square in Chinatown and the other at the Singapore Pools Building in the Rochor area.

Livewires are live sports betting outlets run by Singapore Pools, and with Euro 2020 in full swing, the place is likely full of football fans at the moment.

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), the COVID-19 patient had visited Livewire at China Square from 17 to 19 June.

“From our venue booking records, this person may have visited Livewire at Singapore Pools Building on June 15 and 16 as well,” MOH added.

The employees who were on duty during the specified dates have been advised to stay at home, Singapore Pools said.

“We are working closely with MOH to facilitate the next actions, including swab tests for these employees.”

It is also assisting MOH with contact tracingĀ and will take guidance from MOH on further action.

Last year, all Singapore Pools outlets were closed during the circuit breaker for over two months.

Let’s hope nothing like that happens again.
