Can someone explain why Singapore has seen so many blade-wielders in the past year?
From choppers to swords to knives to razors, it seems like Singapore can never catch a break from sharp, lethally pointy objects. And this time, it’s the return of the chopper.
Attacked Elderly Man At TCM Store
In a statement on 28 October, the Singapore Police Force shared that this attack happened on 26 October, at 3:35pm.
A 69-year-old elderly man was just minding his own business and browsing Thye Hin Hoe, a traditional Chinese medicine store in Bedok Central. His back was turned to the corridor as he was browsing goods outside the store.
Suddenly, a man came up to the elderly victim from the back and took out a chopper, slashing the uncle. The attacker then ran away as the uncle collapsed to the floor in pain.
The victim suffered head injuries, and was sent to the hospital while conscious.
Attacker Arrested Within 5 Hours
When the police arrived, they quickly identified the man through ground enquiries and police camera footage.
Officers from the Bedok Police Division arrested the man within five hours of the attack, and also recovered the weapon from a nearby dustbin.
The police added that they will not tolerate “such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law. We will spare no effort to track down such offenders and will deal with them in accordance with the law.”
