After nearly a week after BY2’s Yumi alleged suicide attempt due to accusations of her being “friends with benefits| with Wang Leehom and the subsequent social media backlash, her older sister Miko has finally stepped out in defence of her younger twin on New Year’s Day.
A new year. A new side to the story.
Before we get into her Weibo post proper, you can check out this three-minute summary video about the entire Wang Leehom Saga if you’re not fully caught up yet:
Miko’s New Year Weibo Post
In light of the fact that some readers might not be well-versed in Mandarin, we have taken the liberty of translating Miko’s Weibo post in full:
A new year, a new wish
It’s a pity that the new year can’t take away
The heart wounds inflicted by rumours
I hope the person I care about the most
Can recuperate fully and leave the hospital
Society has brought tremendous pressure these years
Some have learned to endure silently
But more than 75% of adults in this world
Cannot find an outlet to vent their emotions
We should spend a bit more time
To care and cherish the people who are more important
Having been in the showbiz for more than 13 years
Having seen many faces of the world, and experiencing strong winds and great waves
But this doesn’t mean that one has to meekly submit to oppression for everything
I protected the youth, protected the dreams
Never once forgetting that [we] entered this profession because of [our] ardent passion for singing and music
Nor have [I] forgotten the struggles faced outside with any family by [my] side
Still I believed that I could be incredibly staunch by relying on myself
Do judge a person by the word of others
Do not criticise without knowing the full truth
Whether a bottle of carbonated water tastes good
Can only be judged when [you] have drank it yourself
Do good unto others, not treat others badly
Every living being has cracks
That is where the light shines through

Implications of the Post
Although no one has been mentioned explicitly, it’s quite evident that the important person who Miko wants “to care and cherish” is her younger sister, and she indirectly confirms that Yumi had been admitted to the hospital in hoping that she can make a quick recovery.
The line “It’s a pity that the new year can’t take away the heart wounds inflicted by rumours”, especially, emphasises on the fact that the promulgation of false rumours about her younger sister’s affair with Wang Leehom whilst he was married to Lee Jinglei has hurt Yumi deeply, perhaps even to the extent where she did consider taking her own life.
She hopes that people will stop making such comments without knowing the full story (which also means there might be more to the entire saga that the public is unaware of), and she urges the public to treat people with kindness instead of malice.
By all accounts, this Miko’s Weibo post sounds like a worried older sister expressing her thoughts about the recent events, wishing that the past scandals and pressures can be placed behind them in light of the New Year, while reminding herself and everyone else that the main reason as to why they’ve been standing on stage for so long is because of their passion for music, not some fleeting love.
Truthfully speaking, the entire Wang Leehom Saga with BY2 Yumi’s past relationship with him being abruptly dragged into the fray of the messy divorce scandal sounded like a diversionary tactic to me from the very start, but I’m just one of the many spectators as well.
For the time being though, I hope that Yumi will recover soon and put this sordid event behind her.
Even if it’s not for herself, then for her older twin Miko at least.
