Yes, these alerts are sent out on PUB’s official Twitter and Facebook account, but not everyone uses the blue bird app, and Facebook is used by people above 65.
You can also subscribe to its SMS alert, but pray tell me: what’s an SMS?
So if PUB now has a new way to warn you about impending floods: Telegram.
PUB Creates Flood Alert Telegram Channel to Warn About Potential Floods
PUB has just created a Telegram channel solely for one purpose: to warn us about potential floods.
For example, for today, you no longer need to look out of the window to know whether there’s going to be a heavy rain, for PUB issued this warning at 5:10pm when it’s already raining heavily:
NEA: Heavy rain expected over southern, eastern and central areas of Singapore from 17:30 hours to 18:30 hours. Issued 17:02 hours.
But what’s useful is the latest message as of time of writing:
RISING WATERS / POTENTIAL FLASH FLOODS
Due to heavy rain, water levels in drains and canals have reached 90% in these areas. Risk of flash floods. Please avoid the following areas for the next 1 hour. #sgflood
- Jalan Seaview (Issued 17:33 hrs)
Since most of us are on Telegram, we can use this to plan our journey and avoid areas that might be flooded soon.
So far, the channel has only 723 subscribers, but after today, you can bet that it’ll have lots of subscribers.
Reader: You all overestimate the reach of your articles
No, it’s not us. Didn’t you notice that it’s been raining almost every day?
You can join the channel here.
