Budget 2018, in many ways, is the financial representation of Doomsday.
Just think about it; thus far, the results of Budget 2018 have not been really kind to Singaporeans.
GST increase by 2%?

E-services GST?

So guys, if you thought we have it bad, just take a look at our friends in Australia:
After new legislation was cleared in the Australian parliament on 14 Feb 2016, it has been declared that a packet of cigarettes will cost a whopping $40 (£23) by 2020.
Talk about overkill.

Rising costs
Australia, lest you’re unaware, is one of the most expensive places in the world to buy a pack of cigarettes. And in case you’re wondering, that notion was present even before the crazy price hike in 2016.
The levy on cigarettes will rise by 12.5 per cent over four years, jacking up the price by more than 50 per cent and accumulating an estimated $4.7 billion (£3.5 billion) in the process.
If you need a comparison, a standard cigarette pack in Australia currently stands at the equivalent of £13-15 for 25.
On the other hand, an average pack of 20 costs around £8 in the UK.
Incidentally, Singapore proffers a package of Marlboro cigarettes for about SGD $13, although that’s before the 10% excise increase.

Health measures
Australian treasurer Scott Morrison first announced the news in May during his budget address, and he billed it as more of a health measure rather than a financial one.
The 2016 budget papers stated: “One of the most effective ways to discourage smoking is to increase the price of cigarettes.
“Increases in tobacco excise over the last two decades have contributed to significant declines in the number of people smoking daily.”
And it certainly plays out in the stats. Alongside stringent anti-smoking laws, the price hikes have seen the smoking population fall to less than 15 per cent in six years.
So Singaporeans…
If you ever feel like cursing and swearing at the government for your overpriced cigs, just remember this:

Somewhere in the world (or more specifically Australia), they will be paying up to $40 for a single pack. That’s more than three times the rates you’re paying now.
So save the complaining, and set to work purchasing your housing supplies for the next ten years. After all…
With every single shit increasing, it would take a total dunce not to stock up while the rates are still normal.
