Whose Fault is it in This Footage? Netizens Debate

Everyone knows that jaywalking is illegal but everyone is doing it.

But if a car has stopped in front of you…do you, or do you not, jaywalk?

Here’s the chicken-and-egg question that has arisen from this video (it’s a short video, so go ahead and watch it even if you’re not on Wifi).

Simply put, the car has stopped…primarily because the driver is waiting to turn into the main road, but there are cars zooming from the right.

If you were this pedestrian, what would you do?

  1. Wait with the car
  2. Cross the road in front of the car
  3. Cross the road behind the car (then again, there’s another car behind the car as well)

She chose the second option, and this happenend.

The white car, understandably focusing on the traffic to his or her right, moved off and got a shock when the lady suddenly appeared in front of it.

She even gave a “death glare” at the car, and then like a boss, move forward again—despite a car beside her again (though the driver might have signal her to move).

Netizens immediately debated on who’s right and who’s wrong.

The ones who sided the car (more)

The ones who sided the pedestrian (less)

What’s your take?

But here’s the thing: no matter what, should an accident occur in this manner, the driver would be the one liable.

Lesson to learn?

As a driver, always double-check, because some pedestrians think they own the road.

As a pedestrian, never walk in front of a car unless the driver has specifically signalled you to move off.

As a human being, just be careful when you’re on the road lah.
