2018’s been, for lack of a better word, a pretty turbulent one for Singapore so far.
If you recall, the nation experienced its first ‘winter’ season in ages, with temperatures dipping to a chilly 22 degrees celsius.
And just a couple of days back, hail stones actually popped from the sky, right here in sunny Singapore.
But it seems that the chain of events is yet to cease its rampage, with yet another natural phenomenon that happened just yesterday (31 January):
Torrential winds that knocked over entire rubbish bins and small boats.
What exactly happened?
According to Stomp, the incidents occurred at the National Sailing Centre in East Coast Park yesterday (31 Jan), and video footage was taken between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
In one of the videos, several dinghies could be spotted “flying in the strong winds”, with people shouting in the background.

In another video, a garbage bin can be seen rolling and tumbling as it was whipped away by the gale.
It was eventually swept beyond view, amidst flying rubbish and debris.
‘Spiralling’ wind
Stomp headed down to the National Sailing Centre and spoke to Mr Rohaizan, an Assistant General Manager at the centre who spotted the occurrence.
According to Mr Rohaizan, it all started as a mere watersprout.
Thereafter, the wind came in full force and swept through the dinghies, causing them to take to the air.
And just for your info, each dinghy is believed to be constructed of fibreglass and weighs about 60kg. So you can roughly tell just how strong the wind was.
Damages are estimated to be in the hundreds.
Shelter
Additionally, there was supposed to be a lesson scheduled at the centre in the afternoon, but the students (50) were ultimately advised to seek shelter in the auditorium for their safety.
While I’m not exactly a sailing fanatic, I can safely say that I wouldn’t really want to sail when 60kg dinghies are flying around like frisbees either.
It’s just… not the right moment, ya know. Not when you can become a human frisbee for the first time in your life, with the exception that you can go absolutely anywhere, instead of the standard curve.
Just like how your worst frisbee pal throws the disc, ya know.
Since you’re here, why not watch a video about a guy who lodged a Police report here in Singapore because he was friendzoned? Seriously. Here, watch it and do remember to share it (and also subscribe to Goody Feed YouTube channel)!
