Christmas is the season of happiness, stuffing yourself, and receiving presents.
‘Tis the season to be jolly.
Well, not for one man.
Man Injured by Fall of Wall in Yew Tee
Like something out of a cartoon, the wall of a shop at Yew Tee MRT station suddenly fell on Christmas day (25 December) at around 11:45 am.
Unfortunately, the fall saw one victim, and it wasn’t even because the wall collapsed on him.
On Santa’s naughty list?
Mr Ang Hang Guan, the SMRT Trains’ Senior Vice President of Rail Maintenance, revealed that the passer-by “was startled by the incident and fell” and wasn’t directly injured by the wall’s collapse.
After the collapse, several police officers, TransCom police officers, and MRT station staff rushed to cordon off the area for the public’s safety.
The entire outer wall had collapsed, and red bricks were all over the ground.
Many passers-by filled the scene, especially since it was nearing lunchtime and there was high human traffic.
SCDF personnel arrived at the scene soon enough and attended to the injured man.
Since then, the man has been conveyed to the hospital.
As of now, the cause of the wall’s fall hasn’t been determined yet.

Renovation Works At The Eatery Began Just One Day Prior
The wall belonged to the shop, The Food Inn.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the space occupied by the eatery was initially occupied by a bank, and the collapsed exterior wall was where ATMs used to be. It is speculated that the wall collapsed due to its unstable structure.
The renovation contractor in charge of renovating The Food Inn shared that renovation works had just commenced on Saturday (24 December). Since renovation began, safety and sound barriers were put up in the area.
After obtaining approval from the relevant authorities, workers had already begun installing cabinets and carrying out other works in the eatery’s kitchen.
Fortunately, the workers were having lunch when the incident happened, so no workers were injured.
Well, now that the wall has collapsed, at least it saves the workers some work of knocking down the wall.
