If there’s one thing you need to know about the Internet scene in Singapore, here’s it: don’t piss the queen of Internet Xiaxue off The pink-haired pioneer blogger has surfaced from the Internet since the 56K dial-up period, and her continuing presence is a testimonial of her success. Like her or hate her, you can’t deny that her well-argued opinions and honesty have put her on the social media pedestal: watching her videos (and reading her blog) is almost like reading an entertaining GP essay that’s sure to get a A*. After all, she has always PEEL-ed everything: provide a point, give an example, provide evidence and link it back so well, your GP teacher would've loved her as a student. Seeing how honest she is (she always openly admits that she loves attention), I’m sure she’ll make a good politician: after all, everyone loves an extremely honest politician with good hair, right? Okay, I digress and here’s what happened Xiaxue Posts a YouTube Video About What Happened Before, During & After the Daryl Aiden Yow Saga If you have 17 minutes and 53 seconds to spare, I’ll highly suggest you to just watch the video instead and ignore this long-winded article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v80_oKFKnm_M Still here, because you’ve hit your monthly data limit as it has been a few hours since the start of August? I feel you. So here’s a breakdown. Exposé Was Sent in by Others Xiaxue received an email about Daryl Aiden Yow’s alleged lies one day before Mothership’s exposé. Apparently Daryl must have made a lot of enemies, because we at Goody Feed received the tip-off as well. Daryl’s Alleged Response Unlike us who just ignored the message, Xiaxue forwarded the email to a mutual friend who knew Daryl. Daryl did reply: according to Xiaxue, Daryl allegedly said “he has already addressed this plagiarism issue in his IG stories long ago.” Lest you’re as old as our boss who still uses Friendster, IG Stories would appear in an Instagram profile for 24 hours and would disappear after that. So unless someone did a screenshot, there would be no evidence that it exists. Also, the two old images that were sent to Xiaxue were quite a while back, and back then BFF Andrea Chong was allegedly informed about this issue. She then told Daryl “not to do it anymore” and since then (2017, which is like last year), “he has stopped doing it”. The stock images were then just to practise his Photoshop skills, and he did not credit them as “sometimes stock images, they didn’t cite who the photographer is”. Eh, HOLD ON A SECOND. We’re a long-time customer of Shutterstock and every single image is credited, because we have to. Heck, sometimes, we even have to tick a box before we can download it, and they'll provide us with the citation. The photographer is I AM CONTRIBUTOR and TUBIRY.PHOTOGRAPHY. The original photographer's name is always very clear - at least for Shutterstock. So, wells, anyway. Xiaxue then took his word for it. Then It Gets More Interesting Remember the mutual friend whom Xiaxue contacted? Yeah, Daryl actually asked her what he should do. In a move that’s as twisty as a M. Night Shyamalan movie, she went to ask Xiaxue what to do instead. Xiaxue then suggested telling Daryl to edit the old images’ captions to clarify that the images weren’t taken by him. That was when the bridge of Mothership was on full battle stations, and they came out with the life-changing article the next day. So, the reason why images were already being edited or deleted when Mothership was on red alert was, according to Xiaxue, her tip-off. And it gets even more interesting Like an old “As-seen-on-TV” commercial, there’s more. Someone contacted Xiaxue and told her that in 2015, Daryl reposted an image with no credits. The person commented on the post and it was removed, so she DM him instead, telling him that she randomly chose 12 images, and 7 of them were “Google images”. Here’s a screenshot of their alleged comversation: Can’t read? Here, I type it out for you: Person who contacted Xiaxue: ^what if your reputation as a photographer never recovers? You've taken none of my photos, I've nothing against you. And you're talented, you don't have to do this. Just please give credit when credit is due. Daryl Aiden Yow: Hello!! Omg, it never occurred to me that that was the impression I was giving! In no way was I trying to make it seem like I took those pictures! Thank you SO MUCH for telling me! I will definitely do whatever you suggested to play it safe! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Person who contacted Xiaxue: Hi!! Well I'm glad to hear that, I'm sure everything will be fine if you start crediting and no one can point fingers and accuse you of stealing / copyright infringement. Unfortunately the Internet sometimes does get into mob mentality and attack the profiles of people. Play it safe and keep shooting!!! Daryl Aiden Yow: Thank you so much!! Wouldn't want to get into trouble or get bitched about! ;) Have a good night!! Now you know why Xiaxue was angry: his apology seemed sincere but he allegedly continued his acts. So, what next? Lest you’re not aware, since 21 June 2018, Daryl Aiden Yow has removed all his images, leaving just an apology. At last check, it’s still the same, leaving his 102K followers with no stock beautiful images to appreciate. Will he bounce back? Let’s wait and see.
