3 Summons Issued After Large Group of Bikes on Eve of Deepavali Were Pulled Over by TP

Thursday (4 Nov) was Deepavali, the Festival of Lights celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists all over the globe.

Given how taxing the COVID-19 pandemic has been on our minds, it was a nice time to head out and meet two friends.

Immersed in the spirit of celebration, we tend to get carried away on holidays with our food and drinks.

These guys, however, got carried away on the roads.

Large Group of Bikes Seen on Eve of Deepavali Along Serangoon Road

At least that’s the way the authorities see it.

On the eve of Deepavali, the lucky people walking along Serangoon Road at night were treated to a rather rare sight.

A large convoy of bikers could be seen riding along the road together, with all sorts of coloured lights flashing as they zoomed past.

Fortunately, for us, footage of the vibrant spectacle was captured on camera.

These bikers had clearly just modified their vehicles and wanted to show them off, much like how a peacock struts around before mating. And with how colourful Little India is around this time, you can see why.

It’s only when the group of bikers is making a left turn do we see just how many riders had come along for the show:

The fun eventually came to an end, however, as the video later showed a long line of bikers, presumably from the group shown earlier, taking to TP officers.

According to the video, more than 50 motorcyclists were seen in the area.

So, what exactly had they done wrong?

37 Vehicles Pulled Over

It turns out that the police and Land Transport Authority (LTA) had conducted a joint operation in the vicinity of Serangoon and Klang roads to catch those flouting traffic laws.

In the end, 37 vehicles were pulled over for various offences, including illegally modified exhaust systems and additional light fittings. Three summons were also issued by TP officers for tinted visors.

“TP will not hesitate to take firm action against motorists who choose to flout traffic laws and endanger the safety of other road users,” the police said.

Before modifying your vehicle, do head to LTA’s One Motoring website to check if your modifications comply with the current guidelines.

Since the video was posted on Thursday night, it has garnered over 167,000 views. Many netizens felt that the riders were just having some “harmless fun”.
