What are the lengths you’d go to to save money on transport?
Take the MRT instead of a Grab? Cycle instead of taking the bus? Or maybe even walk?
Well, for this man, it was none of the above.
For him, he was willing to break the law to save a few bucks on parking fees.
Man Caught Turning Away CCTV in Parklane Mall to Allegedly Avoid Paying Car Park Fees
A driver at Parklane Mall allegedly attempted to escape paying parking fees by going against the law.
Firstly, he tilted a CCTV away so it did not face the gantry. Next, he decided to manifest his inner Hulk and forcibly lift the gantry.
In both steps of his master plan to cheat the system, his companion tries to stop him, presumably asking him to get back inside the car.
Nonchalantly, he shrugged her off and continued with his grand escape.
Unfortunately for him, there was another CCTV that recorded the entire incident. The video, which has since been posted to SG Road Vigilante‘s page on Facebook, has received over 63,000 views and over 450 comments.
Many criticised him for being “stupid” and “foolish”, saying that he has got the money to buy the car but not pay the parking.
Safe to say, the netizens didn’t take it well.
They have also called for the authorities to punish him for vandalism and destruction of property.
Penny wise, pound foolish.
According to the same video, the driver also has unpaid fines of around $220 charged to that vehicle.
Seeing as how he’d skimp on parking, avoiding those fines might be a real possibility now.

Motorcyclist: Same Same But Different
Unfortunately, our nation has many who share the same views as this man. They all want to escape parking fees.
In October 2021, a driver modified his in-vehicle unit of his motorcycle to avoid paying additional parking fees.
Essentially, he can enter and exit the carpark without his vehicle being detected and his money being deducted.
Without having to turn away CCTVs and lift gantry barriers, he successfully evaded a total of 545 times of parking fees on HDB-operated carparks, totalling up to $3,400.
Best of all, he landed himself in jail for three months.
Moral of the story, the authorities will always find out.
