On 13 July 2017, McDonald’s Singapore released the Nasi Lemak Burger and it made even non-foodies go apeshit: after all, the fusion of nasi lemak and McDonald’s is like the marriage between Song Joongki and Song Hye Kyo.
But it didn’t receive the rave reviews that we were expecting: despite the sudden long queues in McDonald’s outlets, some people felt that it didn’t replicate the taste of nasi lemak adequately.
Or, in other words, it received bad reviews, even from yours truly.
Despite that, the best feedback is sales, and the Nasi Lemak Burger got that hands down: the burger was sold out within two weeks: something that never seemed to occur before.
In fact, it doubled McDonald’s expectations, and was one of the most successful promotions in recent years.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, as comments about its discontinuation made some people cry.
Okay, I exaggerated, but you get the idea.
And one of the most common comments is this: “I haven’t even tried it.”
(Followed by someone who would say, “Don’t waste your calories on it.”)
So, last week, local magazine 8 Days has a source telling them that the burger would be back on the end of August.
But that’s just speculation.
Until now.
Or I should say, until a few days back.
I was on Facebook when I saw this video being sponsored in my newsfeed.
If you don’t have five seconds to watch the video, it basically implies that something is coming back.
And to make it even more obvious, it showed a person posting this on 26 July 2017, the exact day that Nasi Lemak Burger was discontinued: “so fast finish…i haven’t try ☹ can bring back?”
I immediately told my editor about it, but when he couldn’t find the video in McDonald’s official Facebook Page, I was slapped and forced to buy nasi lemak for the team for the next ten days.
But today I’ve proven to be right.
Yesterday morning, McDonald’s Singapore officially uploaded the video into their Facebook Page.
And if it’s not obvious enough, here are some comments that supported my theory.
Of course, there are some people who hope for the best and wish that McDonald’s is bringing in the recently viral Chocolate Pie from McDonald’s Korea.
Still, I bet all my assets and even offer to buy nasi lemak for all Singaporeans if Nasi Lemak Burger is not back by the end of August 2017.
(Please, McDonald’s, don’t bring back the Chendol McFlurry or Bandung Mcfizz only, if not I’ll be in deep trouble)
