McD Responds to Video of Man Insulting Staff: 8 Topics S’poreans Talked About on 17 Mar

Yishun has been the talk of the town last year, but Bukit Batok (eek, our office area) seemed to have taken over in late 2017 and early 2018 with weirder cases like bra thief, pipe bursting and even sightings of a python.

But today, people might be talking about Yishun again because of this:

Before Yishun, here’re eight news that has gone viral in Singapore so that you’ll have something to talk about during dinner today, or during an awkward first date (well, you’re welcome):

McDonald’s Has Responded to the Viral Video of a High SES High Scolding a Cashier Incessantly

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you would have seen this video making its rounds on Facebook:

It’s quite hard to make heads and tails of what exactly happened with this footage, but all you need to know (if you didn’t bother to watch it) is that a guy berated a McDonald’s staff as the cashier allegedly asked for payment before finishing his order (huh?).

While the McDonald’s staff kept their calm and apologized, the man continued and proved himself to be high SES when he demanded to see a higher authority and said this while putting money on the counter: “I got money to buy many ice cream!”

(P.S. Me, too, since ice-cream isn’t that expensive, no? So I can also scold them, yes?)

With over a million views, McDonald’s has to reply, of course.

This happened in Hougang Mall on Thursday (15 March 2018), and McDonald’s told Channel NewsAsia that they were aware of this, adding that “while our employees strive to do their best every day to serve our customers with care, we also hope that any unintended misunderstandings can be resolved amicably…We believe that under any circumstance, our employees – just like any human being – should be treated with respect, and do not deserve to be shouted at in the manner as portrayed in the video.”

Lesson learned? We’re quite certain that guy hasn’t been in the service line before.

Kudos to the staff for staying calm AF, too!

Fake NTUC Vouchers Circulating in Facebook – Again

Scam alert number one rule: if it’s too good to be true, siam.

Like this.

Image: channelnewsasia.com

The real NTUC FairPrice has stepped up and told the media that it’s fake. The spokesperson says, “There have been incidences of Facebook pages impersonating our official NTUC FairPrice Facebook page. These pages claim to reward customers with FairPrice Gift Vouchers as part of various promotions.

“Should shoppers be in doubt about any promotions or news they receive regarding FairPrice, they can contact our customer service hotline a call at 6552 2722 during office hours, or email [email protected] or send a private message to us through our official Facebook page.”

This isn’t new: earlier this year, a similar scam about NTUC gift card emerged as well.

So remember: the only free lunch is the one in your camp’s cookhouse during your NS or ICT.

Other than that, there isn’t any, so stay vigilant.

Toys’R’Us in Asia Not Effected by US & UK Closure

In the last few months, we’ve been reading about Toys’R’Us impending closures in the US and the UK.

It makes us wonder whether it’ll be a California Fitness, in which outlets in other countries closed down first before affecting the ones in Singapore.

Well, Toys’R’Us has stepped in to assure us that the Asia operations aren’t affected; in fact, it’s growing.

According to Toys’R’Us (Asia) President Andre Javes, they are “are a financially robust and self-funding retail operation, which continues to significantly grow and invest in this region…Every year we are opening new stores in all our markets and particularly in China where we now operate over 150 stores and will be opening another 30 in the coming months.”

Well, so here goes all speculations – Toys’R’Us is still strong in Singapore.

At least that’s what is said, lah. FYI I can also say I’m a millionaire (when I’m actually a billionaire).

GrabHitch Rider Went Apeshit Over Driver for No Good Reason

We all know Uber just launched its carpooling service, Uber Commute, but that’s not the carpooling news that got into the headlines.

Advertisements

Instead, it’s of a rude GrabHitch rider, whom we should name as Mr Strawberry.

So, Mr Strawberry booked a ride at 9:20 a.m., but wanted to change it to 9:15 a.m. instead. The driver then requested it to be at 9:30 a.m.

Next, shit hit the fan.

Image: stomp.straitstimes.com

Here’s something for ALL riders: stop being a Strawberry.

Drivers in GrabHitch or Uber Commute aren’t “paid” to do this: they’re doing this to cover fuel and whatnot, so treat them like a friend who tompang you somewhere instead of sitting behind like a Grab / Uber passenger.

Condo Caught Fire & 50 People Have to be Evacuted

If you’ve done NS, you’ll be very familiar with this term: fire drill.

Whenever we have to train in a new area, we’ll have to go through a fire drill, in which we’ll be taught on what to do in an event of a fire.

50 people in a condominium at Leedon Residence, which is near Farrer Road, experienced  a real evacuation this morning (17 March 2018).

At around 10:30 a.m. today, a second-floor unit caught fire, and 50 people were evacuated.

The SCDF are still investigating the cause of the fire. Now, hopefully this won’t be yet another case of a PMD fire; there has been too many of such cases!

There Are Now Nutella Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Nutella could be the second best invention in the world, losing out only to air-conditioner.

And doughnuts could be the best foods in Woodlands, losing out only to potato chips.

Put Nutella and the best doughnuts together, and you have this marriage made in heaven:

OMG, it’s not a doughnuts coated with Nutella but a doughnut with Nutella inside –

This doughnut is now available in all Krispy Kreme outlets, and given that the post itself has garnered well over 1.2K Shares, and it’s while stocks last, all I can say is…

Good luck.

Taxi Mistook Stairs for Exit

You need to be super drunk to do that. Either that, or you need to stay the heck out of Yishun.

This image has gone viral and it’s for obvious reasons.

Image: stomp.straitstimes.com

Apparently, the taxi has mistook the staircase for the exit.

I wonder how his insurers would react.

Ms Tammy Tan, Group Corporate Communications Officer for ComfortDelGro Corporation Limited, told Stomp this:

“Our priority is the welfare of our cabby and we will assist him the best we can.

“We have also activated our loss adjustors to look into the matter immediately with regard to the property of the temple.

“We are relieved that neither him nor any members of the public were injured.

“The incident occurred because the cabby, who had just dropped a passenger off, mistook the staircase area to be the exit.

“By the time he realised his error, it was too late.”

Too late?

Either there’s really no kerb to separate the road from the pathway (got like that one meh?), or Yishun is back.

Woman Hogged Family Parking Lot & Bragged About Her “Wealth”

In case you’re not aware, there are usually three types of parking lots in a mall: the handicapped lots, the normal lots and the “family lots”.

Basically, family lots are for drivers who come in a family: with, you know, kids or the elderly.

And not for that single soul who park there just to dabao cai png from the foodcourt.

It’s a little difficult to enforce this “rule” since it’s hard to determine if one comes with a family or not (he or she can simply claim to fetch a family), but that’s not the topic here.

It’s about a lone lady who parked her Mini Cooper at a family lot, and when confronted, she said, “I got money to burn. Everyone here knows I’m rich, I’ve got 3 cars.”

Uploaded by Facebook user Daniel Choo via Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, he took her antics to Facebook and it went viral immediately, with over 6K Shares.

You can view the video here.

Here’s his post in full:

Of course, this is so far a one-sided story, but when someone says “I got money to burn,” let’s just say the story automatically becomes one-sided.

Just saying.
