Another technology-related sex crime has occurred.
On Thursday (21 April), 32-year-old Thomas Cher Junxian was sentenced to 11 months’ jail and a fine of $5,000 after pleading guilty to two charges of transmitting obscene objects.
According to TODAY Online, the charges were one of voyeurism, one of possessing or gaining access to voyeuristic recordings, and of possessing obscene films.
What Happened
In 2018, Cher had started dating an 18-year-old girl and filmed their sexual acts even though he knew she was not comfortable with it.
The pair met through the dating application, OkCupid. While they were together, Cher had sex with his victim about four to five times.
Cher had promised the 18-year-old victim that the videos would be for his own personal viewing.
However, Cher proceeded to upload the videos on the pornographic video sharing website, Pornhub, instead.
His clips were then reposted by other users to other websites on the Internet.
Discovery of Clips Online
Around July or August 2018, the 18-year-old victim had discovered an upskirt video of herself online.
The victim could hear herself talking to him in the video. When she logged in to Cher’s Pornhub account, the victim found Cher had uploaded videos of them having sex at his home.
The victim had asked Cher repeatedly to take down the videos.
But Cher refused and replied that nobody would recognise the victim as the videos did not show her face.
The victim then broke up with Cher in October of that year.
After more than a year had passed since their break up, the victim approached Cher again to get him to remove the videos.
Cher did not do so and made the videos private instead.

By then, videos of the victim had already been reposted by other users on their own accounts and spread to another pornographic website.
It was then with the encouragement of her new partner that the victim decided to make a police report on June 2020.
Cher was then arrested on the same day the victim had made the police report.
Multiple Victims Involved
Aside from the 18-year-old victim, Cher had also uploaded other clips of himself engaging in sexual acts with unknown women.
In addition, Cher had also taken other upskirt videos of strangers including passengers on public transport and participants at a private enrichment course.
Cher then admitted that he uploaded the clips online because he felt that each video was an “achievement” and that he felt thrilled to watch other homemade videos on the porn site.
