If Urban Dictionary ever needs a standard definition picture for “messy divorces”, the happy images of Wang Leehom and Lee Jinglei would probably fit the description perfectly.
Just two weeks after the Taiwanese media allegedly reported that the divorced couple had decided to call it truce and signed a confidentiality agreement, a Chinese netizen leaked documents of the couple’s court proceedings in New York last Friday (11 Feb).
The confidentiality agreement didn’t include any clauses about having a third-party being the exposer, perhaps?
That’s beside the point.
According to the leaked documents, Wang Leehom has already submitted 11 pieces of evidence against Lee Jinglei, whilst Lee has not provided any evidence for the accusations previously made.
It should be noted that the documents have not been verified, and the contents include a motion which dictated that Lee had purportedly broken their custody agreement.
This is also the third time Wang’s lawyers have sued Lee.
You know, if the first two times didn’t work, why even try for a third?
Below the stage whisper: Am I the only person questioning why the lawsuit is being filed in the US instead of the Chinese courts, and is it possible that Wang will sue Lee in South Africa next if this fails?
Lee’s Response to the Leaked Documents
Hours after the documents were leaked, Lee responded with her statement through her lawyers, asking about the source of the leak—which is a breach of the previously mentioned confidentiality agreement—and since the court documents had been filed anonymously.
Now we’re just going through official channels and no more emotional Weibo posts, I see.
In the lawyer’s statement, it wrote: “Mr Wang ignored our agreement, froze our account and real estate property that could be used and disposed of according to the agreement, cut off our financial resources and filed the lawsuit in New York.
“In addition to pushing the burden of legal fees on me, Mr Wang was reluctant to pay even the most basic child support and appealed to the New York court to make us pay for his legal fees.”
If any of the alleged statements are true, Wang, that’s a serious low blow, especially given that you’re technically more financially well-off than your ex-wife who has custody over your three children, who need the money and property to survive.
Plus, American attorney fees are notoriously expensive.
Afterwards, she requested her partner of eight years to “abide by the agreement, take responsibility for your promises, let go, end the matter as soon as possible, stop making the same mistake again and stop hurting others and yourself”.

Recalling the Past Sins and Drama
Just for a quick refresher, the custody agreement signed by Wang and Lee states that Lee mainly holds custody over their three children until they are 21.
There is also child support that Wang has to pay for, which includes a support staff of a caretaker, maid and chauffeur to ensure the qualitative lifestyle, protection, and education of the children.
Wang is allowed to visit the children alone, and should any other person be brought over, both parties have to give mutual consent to their presence before they are allowed into the family home.
Despite the custodial agreement, Wang had brought three men to the family home, whilst lying that he had only brought two. Later on, he tried to get Lee to turn off the surveillance cameras and even tried to barge into the house.
Before the dramatic visit, Wang had constantly accused Lee of controlling the time he could spend with his children, and not even allowing him to hold them for long.
The entire drama had initially blown up in December 2021 when Wang had confirmed that the couple had filed for a divorce, then was exposed by Lee for a string of infidelities, of which purportedly included BY2’s Yumi.
To Stop Making the Same Mistakes
In the last part of the lawyer’s statement, Lee’s side said: “The divorce has triggered a trial by the media and irrational online bullying. No matter who was attacked, they are the children’s father or mother.”
If those are the supposedly mistakes that Lee is warning Wang not to repeat, then the abrupt leaking of documents runs contrary to them.
Furthermore, it can’t fully be asserted that Lee doesn’t have any evidence against Wang for breaking his end of the custody agreement.
The forced visit—which Lee reported to the Taiwanese police but did not press charges for—counts as one. The evidence of buying of social media likes to sway public opinion is classified as another, if that will stand in court.
Although it’s uncertain these words will have any effect on the netizens from giving their two cents about the divorce saga’s continuation, the statement adds:
“The United States court ordered both sides to stop publicly attacking each other in the interest of the children. It is regrettable that false accusations and statements are being spread again.”
Finally, a voice of reason in this ongoing madness; an actual attempt to protect the poor children from all the crap their parents are throwing at each other.
The statement from Lee’s lawyers does confirm that a lawsuit has been filed in New York, but the full and exact contents, besides the alleged breaking of the custody agreement, is not completely clear.
In fact, the statement kind of alludes to the damages done in the aftermath of the online scandals, which could be a point of debate the US courts.
Just when we thought that we could finally have silence from this infamous couple, they prove themselves incredibly talented in terms of stealing the spotlight from the entertainment circles and bringing everyone for a wild ride of accusations, endangerment of children, and veiled insults.
Someone make them stop, or better yet, take their electronic devices away from them.
Alas, I don’t think this will be the last we’ll hear from this couple this year, and their divorce drama has now extended into the United States, who always love a good drama to watch.
