Cabin crew might be one of the toughest jobs in the service industry, from flying at odd hours to dealing with jet lags and handling difficult passengers (which can be a nightmare if it is long-haul flight).
They are often scrutinized by the public, eagerly waiting for them to slip up so they can upload it to social media.
Now, another cabin crew is in the limelight for all the wrong reasons.
What happened
According to Stomp, an air stewardess from Urumqi Air, a Chinese budget airline, is in hot soup after a video that went viral.
Here is the video:
In the video, you can see the stewardess sneakily eating one of the many foods that are placed in a row.
Since the video went viral, the airlines issued a statement in regards to the matter.
In its statement, Urumqi Air explained that the food was leftovers from a flight and the worker had been suspended for not following standard procedure, Stomp reported.
Sense something wrong?
I mean, why is she being punished if she was consuming leftover food?
Netizens weren’t too happy with how the situation was handled and they also criticized the person behind the video, Shanghaiist reported.
There were polarising comments among the netizens in Singapore
Some felt that the said stewardess was consuming food that was intended for the passengers.
Some thought that the airlines did not take care of their employees
Some felt that the situation was blown out of proportions.
Thoughts
If the statement issued by the airline was true, then the punishment was a tad bit harsh.
It is a common to see service crew in the F&B industry eating leftover food albeit unhygienic.
For those who think the food looks too perfect to be considered as leftovers, maybe it could be excess food as sometimes they might overestimate the number of passengers on a plane.
I guess whoever uploaded the video would be feeling guilty right about now.
