You are broke, I am broke, we're all broke. It doesn't matter whether you're a student or a working adult, Christmas spendings take a toll on everyone with buying gifts, log cakes, turkey hams etc. We still love to celebrate Christmas though, because the joy of Christmas is infectious and we love sparkly things and getting presents (feels better to receive than give, duh). For all y'all boyfriends who want to celebrate Christmas with your bae but is too broke to take her to her on a fancy restaurant (basic), here are 8 free Christmas events in Singapore for you to impress your bae with 1. Harry Potter Wonderland @ Changi Airport Image: Changi Airport Facebook Page Harry Potter was a big part of most people's childhood and even for the people that aren't Potterheads, Harry Potter is pretty much a legendary, treasured novelty that most will appreciate. Step into the magical wizarding world of Harry Potter at Changi Airport Terminal 3 from now till February 2019. Get a feel of what it's like to be in Hogsmeade Village and Dragon Alley at T3 and Harry Potter fans can also find the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter films at Terminal 2 and Newt's Menagerie from Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald at Terminal 1. 2. Christmas Village @ Ngee Ann City Image: Orchard Road Business Association Aside from the Disney Christmas Lights that's happening along Orchard Road, did you know that there'll be a Christmas Village happening at Ngee Ann City, Civic Plaza? This village will be loaded with activities including games, photo ops and Christmas workshops. Aside from that, there'll also be performances by some local favourites such as Kollective, SuperSonic and The Common People. Christmas Eve Countdown Party Image: Pinterest A continuity of the performances and festivities of the Christmas Village, there will also be a Christmas Eve Countdown Party happening to welcome Christmas for all of you who can last till midnight. Ring in Christmas the jolly way and dance your way into 25th with bands and dance groups. 4. Singapore Dog Festival Image: Singapore Dog Festival™ 2018: A Canine Christmas Celebrate this joyous month with Canines! Even if you don't have one, bringing your bae to the Singapore Dog Festival is also a great way to melt her heart to the ground, isn't it? Head on down to Singapore Dog Festival’s first instalment of exclusive, canine-only events in Singapore. Whether you are a dog owner, enthusiast, or simply curious to learn about Man’s Best Friend, you'll definitely find something you love in this canine festival with photobooths, crafting workshops and free balloons. Sentosa Island Lights Image: sentosa.com.sg (Harmony by Tina Fung) These art installations are the epitome of Insta-worthy and you've probably seen it taking over your Instagram feeds by now. These interactive day-to-night art installations by local artists are located along Palawan Beach and happen from 7-10 pm from now till 31 December this year. Imagine a beach date at Sentosa and immersing in the beauty of these lights at night to end a Christmas Eve date. You're welcome. 6. Christmas Market Petit Marche Image: petitmarchesg.com Food. Our love for food brings us closer together so listen up boyfriends! Bring your partner to a this Christmas Market and let her experience a unique, traditional experience of a French Market here in Singapore. This cultural event will be held at the Salvation Army on Tanglin road and is a unique way to celebrate the holidays instead of going for fanciful lights like what everyone else is doing. Tour around, taste test some of the produce and create a unique memory for the two of you. Date: 22 Dec 2018 Time: 8 am to 12 pm (Note that $1 per person is required for the market entrance token of contribution to the Salvation Army.) 7. Christmas Lights along Orchard Road Image: Orchard Road Business Association Disney's largest Christmas street light-up in Southeast Asia has been up along Orchard Road since the start of November in anticipation for Christmas. The centrepiece of the light-up, the main arch at the Orchard Road-Paterson Road junction features selected 3D Disney characters and trees on either side of the road will be decorated with illuminated 3D Mickey Mouse icons. Orchard Central and Wheelock Place will also be decorated with Disney characters so everyone will be drowning in the happiness that Disney brings us all. Regardless of whether you buy anything along Orchard Road, taking a stroll down these installations might just get anyone in the mood for Christmas. 8. This includes: Asian Civilisations Museum National Museum of Singapore The Peranakan Museum Singapore Philatelic Museum Indian Heritage Centre Malay Heritage Centre Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall Reflections at Bukit Chandu Granted this might not be a very Christmas-y way of celebrating Christmas, it's a good time to take the holidays to gain a bit of cultural or historical knowledge. The goal is to keep your Christmas spirits up while keeping your costs low with these activities, or, you could just stay home and watch a bunch of Christmas-themed movies or listen to Mariah Carey or Michael Buble. Whichever you choose, Christmas is all about spending time with your loved ones so indulge in that more than fret over activities!
